Part 2: Program Implementation & Adoption

This article is co-authored with Sedona Learning Solutions.

Like we shared in Part 1 of this blog post, a customized EHR training program can help combat physician burnout in the hospital setting by meeting the specific tech learning needs and preferences of individual physicians. Once you’ve established core tenants and a structure for the program, you need a plan to roll it out organization-wide. That’s what we’re discussing here in Part 2.

Turn Ideas into action

You can’t implement a customized training program without taking a few critical steps during your EHR implementation process. Here are a few tips to keep in mind as you roll out this approach.

  1.  Address Training Early

And by early, we mean when you’re putting together your project budget. So often, training is an afterthought of EHR implementation strategies, and it shows in user adoption rates. Developing a customized program will be a fraction of the cost of your entire project, but will generate a high return due to higher physician EHR confidence.

  1.  Employ Education Experts

So often, hospitals and health systems rely on business analysts to lead EHR training efforts, but these staff members do not do not specialize in technology education and have higher-priority tasks to focus on. As a result, they cannot deliver comprehensive or consistent training. Participants end up receiving varying instructions and workarounds instead of a clear path for usability. By hiring a team of education experts, you can ensure your training program is rooted in outcomes-based learning research, and will incorporate best practices that drive adoption.

  1.  Establish a Cadence for Ongoing Training

System training shouldn’t just occur during your EHR implementation; users should have access to subsequent learning sessions on a regular basis. This will give you an opportunity to address gaps you’ve identified and provide refresher content in abbreviated formats. You’ll be able to support your physicians as they continue to use the technology in their everyday roles.

Santa Rosa and Sedona Learning Solutions Equip you for EHR training Success

Santa Rosa partners with Sedona Learning Solutions to create customized EHR training programs that help hospitals prevent physician burnout. We take an outcomes-driven approach, structuring the program in a way that best serves the specific organization we’re working with.

We recognize that you don’t want your physicians to be just users of the EHR, but adopters. When they’re properly trained via tailored programs, they’re more likely to get on board with the new technology and realize long-term benefits, which ultimately equates to a higher return on your EHR investment.

Don’t just take our word for it though. Here’s what one of our clients had to say:

“Without a shadow of a doubt, we would not have been as successful without Sedona Learning Solutions’ contribution. The Sedona piece was critical to our training program for our 600 providers and 3,000 staff members. Everything you created for us was exceptional!
Our comfort level with all the variables was when you said you would work with us whatever it takes–and you did! Sedona Rocks!”
